Atkins Shakes – Much Better Than They Sound!

If you are anything like me, then the words “diet shake” fill you with fear and dread. Do visions of tasteless, watery drinks with lumps of undissolved powder spring to mind?

Well, let me help dispel those bad memories – these shakes will completely surprise you with their flavor, texture and taste. You will no longer be left feeling unsatisfied and cheated, the shakes really are the perfect low carb drink.

Back in the old days, before I discovered the Atkins diet plan, I had at one stage resorted to a diet that consisted solely of bland shakes and soups. They tasted disgusting, I was permanently hungry and I only stuck to it for a week.

These shakes are different, they taste great, and you can have them alongside all of the other foods that are on the Atkins diet food list, so you won’t ever get bored!

 

How to use the shakes with your Atkins diet food list

The Atkins diet plan is divided into four different phases.

Phase one is the Induction phase, phase two the OWL stage (On-Going Weight Loss), phase three Pre-Maintenance and phase four, Lifetime Maintenance. The shakes can be drunk during all four phases – all you need to do is to remember to count their net carbs as part of your daily allowance.


Your daily net carb allowance will vary according to which phase you are in, for example during the Induction phase you are allowed up to 20 g of net carbs per day, 12-15 g of which have to be from the foods on the Atkins acceptable foods list, so this leaves you with up to 8g per day to use as you wish.

A single serving of an Atkins shake contains under 3 g of net carbs, so having one of the Atkins Day Break shakes at breakfast, or an Advantage shake as a bedtime drink will fit into your diet plan without any stress, and will leave you with a few net carbs left over for emergencies!

Atkins diet shakes come in two forms: ready to drink and powder.

The ready to drink shakes are sold in cartons of one serving, either singly or in packs and are available from most larger grocery stores and pharmacies, or they can be purchased in bulk online.

The Atkins powder shake mixes are sold in large tubs – you mix the powder with water to make a highly nutritious drink. The tubs contain 10 servings worth of powder, on average.
